From Rome to Sicily: My Unforgettable Italian Journey
Planning your own Rome to Sicily travel guide? This is the story behind my unforgettable journey through Italy — from flying dresses at the Colosseum to wine tastings on the slopes of Mount Etna. What began as a girls’ getaway became a soul-refreshing experience of beauty, food, and faith.
A soul-stirring journey from Rome’s flying dress moments to Sicily’s seaside sunsets. Join me as I rediscover joy, flavor, and bold faith across Italy.
Arrival Day: Spaghetti, Gelato, and the First Glimpse of Rome
Our Italian adventure began the moment we landed in Rome on May 15. We quickly dropped off our luggage and walked down the street for our first Italian meal at a delightful restaurant, Il Matriciano later picking up gelato at a local neighborhood spot.
After settling into our Vatican-area Airbnb, we embraced the city with a glamorous twist: a night at a beautiful restaurant with a panoramic view of the skyline, including the Vatican. IL Giardino is located at the top of Hotel Eden and everything is delightful from the views, staff and of course the food and drinks!

Packing Tip: Use packing cubes to organize daily outfits. Planning each day’s outfit in advance and photographing them saved so much time.
Day Two: The Vatican and Flying Dress photo shoot
Our private tour guide, Giulia, brought the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica to life. Standing in the Sistine Chapel felt sacred. We took our time marveling at Michelangelo’s ceiling, letting the hush of reverence settle in. The art work in both the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica can only described one way: Breath-taking

Travel Tip: Book a private guide early and aim for morning slots and to avoid the crowds and long lines when and where possible. What to Improve: Pack stronger walking shoes next time—arch support is crucial, especially on cobblestone.
Next on the agenda, getting ready for our flying dress photo shoot! I got a great recommendation for a great make-up artist to step the glam up another notch. The team was so efficient and personable making sure we were comfortable why getting some amazing photos.

Day Three: Colosseum and Southern Departure
We started early for our special-access tour of the Colosseum’s underground dungeons. Being in those ancient corridors was surreal. The stories were as incredible as the architecture that had maintained its integrity thousands of years in existence.
If you’re creating your own Rome to Sicily travel guide, I highly recommend ending your Roman stay with the Colosseum and flying south to Catania — the contrast is unforgettable.

After our tour of the Colosseum, we caught a flight to Catania, Sicily.
Flight Note: We flew with Ryanair—budget-friendly but be prepared to pay for extras like bags and snacks.
Sicilian Beach Days Three – Six: Rest, Reflection, and the Rhythm of the Sea
The southern Sicilian coast offered everything we needed: golden sand, peaceful waves, and beautiful weather. We spent hours at the beach, journaling, sunbathing, and tasting local bruschetta and seafood pasta.

Mount Etna and Wine with a View: May 18
Mount Etna was majestic and humbling. I stood at the summit in awe of God’s creation.
Afterward, we visited Gambino Winery. Sipping wine with panoramic views of Sicilian vineyards and the Ionian Sea was one of the trip’s top highlights. The food and wine? Perfection.

Travel Tip: Wear layers for the mountain. It gets chilly even in May. Navigation tip: Use your phone’s GPS—no need to rent the car’s GPS.
Scala dei Turchi: Sunset Magic
The white cliffs of Scala dei Turchi at sunset felt like a dream. I wore a navy and ivory striped dress, which paired perfectly with the golden light and Mediterranean backdrop.

Osteria dei Folli: A Meal to Remember
Our last night in Sicily was spent at Osteria dei Folli. We met the chef and manager, both warm and passionate about food. The sliced steak, skewers, and melted cheese with capers were rustic, flavorful, and filling.

Travel Tip: Always ask the server for their favorite dish—it never disappoints.
Return to Rome last night: Michelin Star Dining at Il Pagliaccio
For our final dinner in Rome, we dined at Il Pagliaccio—a two-star Michelin restaurant that offered more than food: it offered performance. The tasting menu told a story in acts, from “A Shrimp at the Funfair” to “Transparency” and “Choux!”
I wore a printed black-and-white mini dress with espadrille wedges and a beaded watermellon purse—a fun statement piece that echoed the artistry of the evening.

Style Tip: Pack one outfit that makes you feel elevated and bold. This was mine.
Final Thoughts: What Italy Gave Me
This journey wasn’t just about travel; it was about restoration. From the waves of Sicily to the artistic plates in Rome, I found space to reflect, laugh, pray, and dream.
Italy didn’t just give me memories. It gave me back a piece of myself.
✈️ Bonus: Flight & Tech Essentials Review
• Sony Headphones: Perfect sound. Not needed in business class, but great during layovers.
• iPad Pro + Logitech Case: Great for movies, too heavy—next time, a travel-size iPad.
• Charger Issue: My dual charger failed—bring a backup next time.
• Backpack: My Amazon backpack was ideal. Roomy, smart design.
